The American Kennel Club (AKC) offers a Certificate and Titling Program for teams who are looking for structured learning and measurable milestones. These nationally recognized titles highlight reliable life skills, polite public behavior, and responsible dog ownership.
Canine Good Citizen (CGC)
The Canine Good Citizen program focuses on polite, reliable manners for everyday life. Dogs demonstrate foundational life skills while working through distraction, distance, and duration.
Dogs demonstrate:
- Appropriate greetings and cooperative handling
- Loose-leash walking in everyday settings
- Reliable recall and self-control
- Calm behavior around people and other dogs
Teams who pass earn the AKC CGC certificate or title.
Prerequisite: K9 FUNdamentals or similar
Community Canine (CGCA)
Community Canine is the advanced level of CGC and brings skills into real-world environments. Dogs demonstrate reliability in public settings while maintaining focus, engagement, and self-control.
Dogs demonstrate:
- Polite behavior in community environments
- Reliable responses around increased distractions
- Calm handling in public spaces
- Sustained focus and teamwork in busy settings
Teams who pass earn the AKC CGCA title.
Prerequisite: Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certificate
Urban Canine Good Citizen (CGCU)
Urban CGC prepares dogs for busy, everyday environments such as sidewalks, buildings, and public spaces. This level emphasizes calm confidence and dependable skills in dynamic settings.
Dogs demonstrate:
- Polite behavior in busy public areas
- Confident navigation in urban environments
- Reliable responses under distraction
- Calm, focused teamwork
Teams who pass earn the AKC CGCU title.
Prerequisite: CGC, CGCA or instructor approval
Group Class Pricing
10 classes: $500
6 classes: $315
Any group class can also be structured into a private class.
Dogs displaying fear, anxiety, or reactivity are not suited for most group classes.
