The ins and outs of the Interior Search with Jo Trent
Date: Saturday, October 19
9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Location: Pictographics
4830 W Oquendo Road, Las Vegas, NV 89118

Interiors are always a wild ride for you and your dog.  Interiors are not a natural environment for dogs, however, with practice, training and education, you and your dog can be wildly successful.   In this workshop, you and your dog will spend quality time together training for interiors!

Jo will review and coach you through the good, the bad and the ugly of converging odors, inaccessible hides, reading your dog’s behavior, increasing drive to odor and sourcing.
Jo will work hands on with each team to review and refine handling and go over considerations for the interior search.  You will learn to understand your dog and their search behaviors.

In addition, you will learn Jo will help you evaluate and prepare for the interior search:   A/C, heat, unique interior distractions (refrigerators, computers, desk drawers with candy – on no!!), floor surfaces and more!

Jo is adept at reading dogs behaviors both in and out of odor.  She excels at being able to communicate to the handler what to watch for in their K9 as the search progresses.   She understands breed specific behavior as well as understanding the all American mutt.  She  is well known and admired for her classes in leash handling, an important skill to achieve and master in Nose Work.   She is an expert in quickly assessing the dog, the handler and how they work as a team and will have helpful tips for each team.  Jo’s teaching style is upbeat, positive and encouraging.

This fun and informative class will appropriately challenge teams competing at all levels from novice to Elite.

About Jo Trent
Jo, originally from Colorado, had allergies to dogs and cats so “pocket pets” is what was roaming around her home.  She was lucky enough to have an uncle with a farm, so every summer Jo was able to experience horses, cows, pigs, goats and chickens.

In 1995,  Jo moved to sunny Southern California to work in the corporate world. After adopting her first cat, her passion for animals blossomed and she knew she wanted to work with animals. In 1999, Jo left the corporate world and started her own pet sitting business. To help develop her skills with working with animals and give back to the animal community, she volunteered for the spcaLA. Within months, Jo found herself working full time as the spcaLA’s Outreach Assistant. While working at spcaLA, Jo was shelter manager at P.D. Pitchford Companion Animal Village & Education Center, assisted the spcaLA’s Animal Behavior and Training Department with assessments and became a member of spcaLA’s Disaster Animal Response Team (DART). Jo became a sworn spcaLA Humane Officer and is S.A.F.E. certified.

Jo’s interest in K9 Nose Work® developed in 2009, when she enrolled Sluggo into a Fun Nose Work class.  Jo enjoyed the confidence and fun that Sluggo experienced through Nose Work so much that she wanted to share the wonderful game with more folks and their dogs. Through the support of the NACSW founders and her husband, Jo started a new career in 2010 teaching K9 Nose Work® classes. Jo is a Certified Nose Work Instructor and NACSW Certifying Official.

Jo shares her home with husband, Sluggo, Jelly a Belgian Malinois and their 3 cats.
