General Class Guidelines
We strive to keep learning enjoyable and fun for everyone. Please allow dogs a good amount of space while crossing paths coming into and out of building, in parking lot or potty area. Based on your class curriculum, your instructor will arrange for appropriate interaction.
EQUIPMENT FOR DOG:
Bring a soft, flat mat, a towel, bowl, water, potty bags, treat pouch, stuffed kongs or bones and anything your dog may need to be comfortable.
Please bring your dog on a flat collar, martingale or comfortable sport or working harness. We love taking the pressure off the neck and encourage you to get a harness with 2 points of contact and can go over this with you in person.
No flexi-leads, choke collars, chains, prong collars or electronic collars please.
K9 Nose Work Class Only: Dogs work one at a time. Dogs crate in vehicle while waiting their turn, weather permitting. In warmer months, they crate indoors.
FOOD:
Bring 3 to 4 types of small, cubed treats that are easy to handle in Ziploc bags or plastic containers. We love using nutritious, high value food reinforcement that is part of your dog’s meal. Treats should be cubed not shredded and already broken up or cut - novel, moist and smelly treats work well -cubed/cooked minimally processed steak/turkey/chicken/sausage/hot dog/cheese, etc...
Also bring crumbly treats!
Also, let us know if your dog has any allergies and be prepared to trade treats with other classmates. Dogs are often curious about what other dogs eat.
POTTY AREA:
Please have your dog potty on rock or natural surface only and do not allow your dog to urinate/mark on equipment or buildings. Poop bags should be deposited in commercial garbage can behind the property only.
EQUIPMENT FOR HANDLER:
Come prepared to work in ALL weather - rain or shine! Please plan on wearing cool clothes during our warm season; warm clothing during our cold season and rain gear during our rainy season. Bring sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, water and wear closed toed shoes to class. No open toed shoes please.
Bring a treat pouch or apron for your dogs treats. No Ziploc bags in treat pouch please. .
