Nose Work Handling Seminar with Chris & Laura Busch
Date: Saturday, April 18, 2020
9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Location: Pictographics
4830 W Oquendo Road
At this workshop, be ready to have FUN, expect the unexpected and be prepared to handle any challenge! Fido can’t resist the allure of birch, anise and clove. They are all about the search. But, when they get to a trial they sometimes wonder, "What’s up with my human? Why are they acting so strange? They don’t act like this in class. Trials seem so stressful for them." This workshop will help prepare the handler to stress less and have more fun.Relax and think like a dog. Dogs find odor and get a reward from their very favorite person. It’s that simple.

About Chris
Chris Busch, Certified Nose Work Instructor™ (CNWI) and NACSW Certifying Official
In 2008, while taking an obedience class at the SPCALA in Long Beach with his Weimaraner Barley, Chris learned of a new class called Fun Nose Work that was being offered. At that time Nose Work was just in its infancy. Chris has been able to watch this fun game turn into a thriving sport that has grown nationwide. He has been very active with the National Association of Canine Scent Work ™ (NACSW) from the very beginning. He has also spent countless hours volunteering and being a Certifying Official at NACSW™ trials and ORT’s.
To learn more about animal behavior Chris volunteered for many years with the behavior and education department at his local shelter. During the time he spent at the shelter he helped with assessing dogs before being adopted and for special programs, which involved the dogs interacting with children and/or elderly people.
Barley, Chris' dog, is the first Weimaraner to achieve an NW1, NW2 and NW3 x2 title. Barley and Chris have also achieved their NW3 Elite title and have been invited and competed in two NACSW™ National Invitational Trials. Chris and Laura (his wife) both currently teach all levels of K9 Nose Work classes at the SPCALA in Long Beach. He also teaches specialized workshops and skills clinics and hosts many seminars and coaching clinics to handler/dogs teams in his area.

About Laura
Laura Busch, Certified Nose Work™ Instructor (CNWI) and NACSW Certifying Official
Laura has been very active with K9 Nose Work® since 2008 and has been involved with many Nose Work events as this sport has grown nationwide. When Laura first started K9 Nose Work® she and her husband co-handled their Weimaraner (Barley). In 2010 Laura started training their second Weimaraner (Heidi) in K9 Nose Work®. Heidi has overcome many environmental issues because of K9 Nose Work®. Because of Heidi’s sensitivities Laura has learned to help other dogs overcome environmental issues as well.
Laura’s passion for this sport compelled her to learn more about canine behavior. She spent several years volunteering her time with the behavior and education department at her local shelter to learn more about canine communication and helping with programs designed to increase adoptions for the animals in their care. Because of her passion for helping people, and their dogs, Laura continually attends seminars and workshops on training and dog behavior.
Since 2008 Laura has been helping to coordinate K9 Nose Work® trials in Southern California, acting as Trial Host, Trial Representative and/or Volunteer Coordinator. Laura has been involved with volunteering at many trials in California, Illinois, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Minnesota, Alabama, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Texas, Oklahoma, Utah and Nevada.
Laura currently teaches all levels of K9 Nose Work® Classes at the SPCALA in Long Beach, CA, she also teaches specialized workshops and skills clinics, and hosts many seminars and coaching clinics to handler/dogs teams in her area. She and her husband Chris also host Charity Nose Work® Odor Hunt Events. These charity events have benefited Chase Away K9 Cancer, LA on Cloud 9 (which benefits homeless people and their dogs), and an annual fundraiser at Christmas time that benefits low income families with food during the holidays. Laura serves as a Supervising Certifying Official (C.O.) for NACSW™ sanctioned K9 Nose Work® Trials and as a Certifying Official and Judge for K9 Nose Work® Odor Recognition Tests (ORTs).
